Setting Your Wedding Date: Things To Consider

Choosing a wedding date can be stressful in the best of times, more so than ever in 2020. While it's impossible to predict the future, there are a few things you should consider when it comes to planning your wedding date. Therefore, we wanted to take you through the bases to cover before locking in your date.

The timeline of your planning phase:

One of the most critical aspects of setting your wedding date will be giving yourself enough time to plan out everything you'll need to do between your engagement and the actual wedding day itself. Between sorting the dress, venue, sending out invites, saving and budgeting, picking and organizing bridesmaids, and so much more, you'll want enough time to plan your dream wedding to the best possible extent. So think about how much time you'll approximately need to prepare before committing to a date.

One good tip to keep in mind is when you've decided how long you'll need to plan, add a month or two to have some spare time just in case.

Public Holidays:

When looking at potential wedding dates, make sure you're aware of what public holidays will be on or around that date. If they could potentially interfere with your wedding date—for example, getting married between Christmas and New Years' is generally frowned upon. Many venues are closed over the holidays, and guests tend are scattered around for family obligations.

A quick way to check public holidays is to Google the state or city you live in + 'public holidays' just to make sure.

The season/expected weather:

While nobody can predict the weather with full accuracy months (or a year+) in advance, there are always some obvious data points to go off. One such case would be in Queensland, where Euphorie Studios is located, our rainy/wet season runs from November to April, and while there's every chance it won't rain in that time, it's always a potential risk you should be prepared for. Funnily enough, November and March tend to be the most popular months to be married in, along with October, but being aware that it could rain may be something to consider based on where you'll be having your wedding ceremony.

Work scheduling:

While you'll (likely) be taking time off work around your wedding, planning it during a stressful period of the year work-wise is something I'd advise against. Being doubly stressed in the lead-up can wreak havoc on us as humans, so it's essential to give yourself the freedom to minimize as much of life's stresses as possible when planning and carrying out your wedding day.

Budgeting restrictions:

We've all got different budget restrictions when it comes to our wedding days. The key is to be realistic with your budget and plan around that. To get the most for your money, it may even be worth getting married at times of the year that fewer people tend to be married in, such as January or February. That way, venues will have far more availabilities and may potentially be a bit more cost-effective.

Friends, family & huge life events:

If you have specific people you need to have at your wedding, it might be a good idea to run your potential dates by your close circle. Make sure you factor in things like other friends' weddings or other major life events that could prevent people from being at your wedding or require you to attend on those dates.

The availability of your venue:

If you've picked out the dream spot for you to hold your wedding, sometimes it may require you rescheduling from your intended date if the venue doesn't have any free availabilities on your wedding day. Therefore, it's essential to run your preferred dates by the venue staff ASAP so you can lock in the venue you've dreamed of for your special day.

Ultimately, there are so many variables when it comes to locking in a date, but if you create your list of things you may need to consider, it should be a massive help in guiding you towards the perfect date for you to say 'I do' on!
