2024-2025 Trend Prediction: Drop Waist Wedding Dresses
Wedding trends come and go all the time; sometimes, they even come back around for a second, third, or tenth time, depending on our era. Trends can be driven by celebrity weddings, brands pioneering iconic designs, TV shows spurring on something new (hello Bridgerton), or other times, brides on social steer the trend.
In recent years, we’ve seen a range of trends, some old, some new, emerge in the bridal industry, such as bridal minis, embroidered veils, gloves, and more. One returning design feature we LOVE in bridal and believe will take over is the drop-waist wedding dress, something we’re predicting will set fire to weddings in 2025.
As Brisbane's leading custom wedding dress designers, we’ve been crafting drop-waist wedding dresses for our brides in progress. However, we wanted to put our spin on an iconic design for brides who might not want a custom wedding dress because they can’t visit us in person or are under budgeting constraints.
Drop-Waist Wedding Gowns: The Wedding Trend Of The Year
We recently launched two drop-waist gowns in a capsule collection, our Lia and Jordan gowns. I wanted to take some time out to showcase these two gowns and discuss our design intention behind crafting them—because knowing more about your future wedding dress is always a good thing!
Why do brides love drop-waist wedding dresses? They are striking for one major feature: the way the style elongates a bride's body. This allows for a more flattering silhouette by showcasing the upper body’s natural silhouette rather than cutting at the waist while making the bride appear taller.
The benefits of a drop-waist wedding dress are noticeable with the rise in second—and third-look dresses at bridal events. They allow you to wear different styles or silhouettes throughout the day and night. We’ve had a number of custom brides opt for a drop-waist gown that combines a corset top with two different skirts, one full-length and one mini-length, to allow seamless transitions between outfits as they go from ceremony to reception.
A Spotlight on ‘Jordan’
Featuring a strapless corset bodice with pleated bust details and an exposed boning finish, combined with her drop-waist full A-line skirt with thigh-high overlap, Jordan was designed to be striking by elongating and accentuating your natural figure.
